ABOUT
Matthew Roddis - BA Hons (First Class) Performance for Stage and Screen/DIPLCM/PGCE
Matthew has been performing for over 15 years, with extensive experience in each side of theatre from acting and singing, to directing and teaching. Matthew's experience started at the heart of South Yorkshire in Rotherham. He started his journey at Rotherham Youth Theatre and worked through different amateur companies with a vast amount of shows under his belt. He then trained at Rotherham College with a BTEC in Musical Theatre gaining one of the highest grades in Rotherham. Most recently, he has recently graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a First Class Honours degree in Performance for Stage and Screen. Matthew also specialises in Musical Theatre performance with a vast amount of knowledge in singing and performance techniques. He has gained musical theatre grades 3-8 from the London College of Music, as well as his DIPLCM.
Matthew is trained in many acting techniques with his main area of expertise being Stanislavski's System and naturalistic performance. He has a wide range of knowledge from theatre performance to screen acting which he focussed directly on whilst studying at University. As well as this, Matthew has performed in over 30 international countries such as Venice, Monaco and Italy.
Another of Matthew's interests is directing. He made his directorial debut in Suspects - a play that was showcased at Sheffield's Early Fest. He hopes to progress and create more work in this area of performance and has directed for NODA and some smaller projects.
Teaching plays a massive part in all aspects of performance, at any level. As a performer, Matthew believes you have to exercise your own discipline(s) no matter what level of experience you are at. Matthew is currently a Drama Teacher at Stage Coach Performing Arts, working with children from 6-18 as well as a freelance drama and singing tutor in and around South Yorkshire. Check out the Training page for more information.
More recently, Matthew has undertaken his PGCE and is currently working as a primary school teacher, a passion that he adores.
